Dr. Destonie Cormier, DSW, LISW

Clinical Therapist

As a young adult, I witnessed the profound impact of trauma and grief as friends and family returned from war, struggling with limited access to mental health care. At just 19, I made it my mission to support service members and veterans navigating these challenges.

Over time, my work expanded to include first responders—police officers, firefighters, EMTs, corrections officers, and medical professionals—who face significant mental health concerns of their own. While much of my career has been dedicated to veterans, service members, and first responders, I also work extensively with individuals experiencing depression, anxiety, grief, and trauma stemming from interpersonal violence, gun violence, vehicle accidents, and medical diagnoses. Additionally, I have experience in hospice care, including end-of-life planning and support.

I understand how deeply trauma, grief, and depression can affect every aspect of life. In our sessions, my goal is to help you gain a clear understanding of your thoughts, feelings, and beliefs, all of which play a crucial role in your day-to-day experience. I take an active role in therapy, offering real-time tools and feedback to help you develop practical skills you can use both in and out of session.

With over 12 years of experience, I’ve found that a person-centered approach—combined with solution-focused techniques and evidence-based practices—can empower individuals to regain a sense of control, reconnect with themselves, and move forward with purpose. I’d be honored to support you on your journey.
